After a morning Muay Thai class, I then decided to EmQuartier for lunch. Kub Kao Kub Pla is a chain restaurant that’s reasonably priced and focuses on classic home-style Thai dishes.
This branch in EmQuartier has great natural light and spacious between tables, making it a very comfortable place to sit. The menu is extensive—almost overwhelming with choices. Two of us ordered three dishes, one bowl of rice, and a drink. Portions were quite generous, so it would be even better to share between three or more people.
What I liked the most was the pomelo salad with crispy shrimp. Sweet, juicy pomelo segments were tossed with crispy fried shrimp and Thai dressing. The seasoning hit all the right notes—salty, savory, sour, and spicy. The texture was refreshing yet crunchy. Other dishes were also solid: green curry was properly spicy and layered in flavor, and fried shrimps with betel leaves were crisp but greasy at all.
As for drinks, the lychee iced tea was too sweet for my taste, and nothing else particularly caught my eye. I did notice many people bringing their own takeaway drinks, so if you’re picky about beverages, you might want to do the same.
With its wide selection, good flavors, reasonable prices, this is a place I’d be happy to revisit and explore more of the menu next time I’m in Bangkok.

Deep fried baby shrimps with betel leaves
THB 185
Crispy fritters made with small shrimps and betel leaves, served with a tangy, spicy dipping sauce.
Very crunchy and served piping hot—an easy, savory snack that goes down smoothly.
It was a bit much for two people to share though, and the fried shrimps felt similar to the ones in the pomelo salad.

This seems to be a fairly common dish in Thailand, yet it’s something I’ve rarely seen in Taiwan. Definitely worth trying!

Green curry with chicken
THB 245
Well-layered in flavor, with a broth-like consistency that’s just right. Even though green curry sounds simple, the taste is completely different from what you usually find in Taiwan.
❗️The green chilies are extremely spicy
